160 CN20 units arrived onsite within 8 days of the tragedy via air, land, and sea to provide a rapid rehousing solution for victims of the wildfires in Lahaina, Maui in August 2023
In cooperation with local non-profits, nationwide NGOs, the Hungarian Government, and NATO, Continest was able to deliver 160 Continest CN20 units to provide a rapid, sustainable rehousing solution for people who tragically lost everything – and in many cases, loved ones – in the deadliest wildfire in the US in the past 100 years.
The CN20s arrived in 3 waves, with the first units being delivered just 8 days after the fires by a C-17 Globemaster out of Papa Air Base in Hungary.
Working on the ground with our partners at Family Life Center, Hawaii Off-Grid, Revolusun Solar, and many others, this world-class rehousing effort features a donated solar micro-grid, locally made private showers, bathrooms, and kitchenettes, and merged Continest units to create homes for larger families to match the waitlist which prioritizes the kupuna (or elderly) and families with keiki (or children) under 5 years old.
The new community, ‘Ohana Hope Village’ also features large covered gathering spaces, lanai’s for every unit, gardens, and playgrounds.
We are very proud of this project that emphasized what is possible in terms of our speed of delivery and setup, our adaptability to local needs and concerns, and our ability to grow and build partner networks to co-create the best possible solutions for those in need due to natural or man-made disasters. We were humbled, honored, and grateful for the opportunity to play a role in responding to this tragic event and could never say enough about our great partners and volunteers from across the globe who worked tirelessly to help make this possible.
